J599S5 Lightweight Miniature 38999-Type Circular Connectors

Up to 41 % lighter · same insert arrangements as Series III · 1 to 128 contacts

J599S5 combines the small, light shell of GJB 599 Series II with the environmental performance of Series III. It keeps the same insert arrangements, contacts and harness assembly process as J599 Series III, while cutting weight by about 30 % and volume by about 20 % (aluminum shells, same insert arrangement).

Key features

  • About 30 % lighter and 20 % smaller than J599 Series III connectors with the same insert arrangement (aluminum shells)
  • Same insert arrangements, crimp contacts (GJB 1216) and harness assembly process as J599 Series III — no retooling
  • 20G square-flange receptacles use the Series III panel cut-out for drop-in replacement
  • Double-start threaded coupling with anti-decoupling; scoop-proof, keyed and blind-mateable
  • Aluminum, stainless-steel and titanium shells; marine (M) versions pass acid salt spray 240 h and acid atmosphere 28 days
  • Matching straight, 90° and shielded backshells

Frequently asked questions

How much lighter is J599S5 than a 38999 Series III-type connector?

A mated pair with the -35 insert arrangement is 30–41 % lighter than a J599 Series III aluminum pair and 20–30 % lighter than a composite pair, depending on shell size. See the weight comparison table.

Can I keep my existing insert arrangement and harness process?

Yes. J599S5 uses the same insert arrangements, crimp contacts and harness assembly process as J599 Series III. Only the shell and coupling are smaller.

Do I need to change my panel cut-out?

Not with the 20G square-flange receptacle, which uses the Series III panel cut-out. The standard 20 receptacle has a smaller cut-out.

Is J599S5 intermateable with 38999 Series III plugs?

No. J599S5 has its own smaller coupling thread, so plugs and receptacles must both be J599S5. The insert arrangements and contacts are the same as Series III.
